Sleep is Self Care
“When did you last put yourself first?”
This question screamed at me from an email subject line a few days ago. It came from Calm.com, the company we all know with the meditation and helping you sleep app. Since I had been struggling mightily to get anywhere near enough sleep for several nights before I saw that email, the thought came to me suddenly…”Sleep is self care. And I need some of both!”
Of course, I already know that. I know it intellectually, and I truly believe it. But in the hustle-bustle of everyday life, and especially during particularly busy and stressful times, we all tend to get so focused on getting it all done, that simple truths like this are hidden behind all the busyness.
So I read that email from Calm. How had I forgotten all the gentle, soothing, restful audios they offer? How had I neglected to take advantage of something that simple as I crawl into bed each night? How had I forgotten to take care of me?
Hopefully you haven’t forgotten how important it is for you to take care of yourself. To put yourself first sometimes, even if it’s just once in awhile. But better if you can do a little of that each day. Or night, by making sure you get enough rest.
Because truly, sleep IS self care.
Try this complimentary audio from Calm.com. You can listen with just the narration by Jerome Flynn, with a background of music, or my favorite, the sound of relaxing ocean waves.
Take care of yourself.
