Binaural Beats, Pain Relief, and Sleep

Pain is one of the most difficult things to cope with in life. The fact that pain so often prevents you from sleeping well, or sometimes at all, is a double insult.

Researchers have found there is a correlation between lack of adequate sleep and pain tolerance. A 2022 study published in the medical journal Sleep Medicine Reviews states:

“Sleep loss leads to increased pain perception in people with and without chronic pain. As sleep is a modifiable factor, improving sleep has potential clinical implications for pain management in individuals with concurrent sleep disturbance and chronic pain.”

It can feel like a vicious cycle when you’re dealing with both pain and sleep loss. You can’t sleep because you’re hurting, and you’re hurting more because you can’t sleep. And on, and on, and on.

When you’re hurting, or you’re watching someone you care about hurting, and nothing you’ve tried gives any relief, it’s one of the most helpless and out of control feelings you can feel.

You’ve probably searched high and low for solutions and relief. You may have consulted doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapists. Maybe you’ve explored acupuncture or acupressure, or hands on energy workers like Reiki or Quantum Touch.

Binaural Beats – Pain Relief You Can Try at Home

Another scientific study published in the European Journal of Pain in 2020 studied whether binaural beats therapy could help with pain. It concluded that theta rhythm binaural beats “can alleviate pain intensity” as well as reducing “stress, and analgesic use.”

We all need the help of medical experts and professionals when dealing with health issues like pain. But when you’re home and hurting outside of office hours and you’re desperate to find some kind of relief, this is something you can easily try yourself.

It is important for binaural beats to work properly, that you listen with headphones or earbuds in both ears. It’s what allows your brain to use the two separate tones to create the auditory illusion called a binaural beat that is so effective in many different ways.

While you can find lots of different recordings and YouTube videos with different tones – and we do encourage you to try as many as it takes to get you relief – here’s a YouTube video using theta waves that we like.

We know how debilitating pain can be, and how exhausting it is when you can’t sleep. We hope this information helps you to both alleviate your pain and get some good sleep!
