It’s that time of year again. I’m sure you’ve marked your calendars and are anxiously awaiting the official day when you can join other people in your town or city to bash the heck out of each other with…. pillows. Yes, I am indeed talking about the 9th annual International Pillow Fight Day, which, this year, falls on Saturday, April 7th. You didn’t know there was such a day? Well, lucky you’re reading this. Now you can join in. Each year, on the first Saturday of April, pillow fight events are organized around the world. You can find out whether …

Do you ever find yourself wondering about strange, obscure things? Just out of curiosity? I do. I’ve done this my whole life, but until the internet really came into its own and search engines became know-it-alls (in a good way, of course) most of my wonderings went unanswered. Before Yahoo, Bing and Google, I had to really want to know something to start asking around or really-really want to know to go to the library to find answers (rarely did I want to know something that badly). Now that we can not only sit down at a computer and easily …

Everyone thinks of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” as a Christmas song. But it’s really a winter song, when you get right down to it. And now that it’s February, right smack in the middle of winter, it seems like a good time to talk about winter and cold weather, and how they affect our sleep. Sorry to you readers in the southern hemisphere who are smack in the middle of summer right now! Maybe reading an article about cold will help you feel cooler. Nah, that never works, does it? I’ve tried it in the middle of an Arizona July, …

Happy 2018! 2018 – that number just sounds crazy for some reason. I’m probably showing my age by saying that, aren’t I? I admit it, I’m over 30 (ahem!) Okay, maybe a little bit more than that (cough, cough!) Never mind… The new year brings us a lot of things. A new calendar, the feeling of a fresh new start, a few extra pounds from a fun and delicious holiday season. It also seems to bring on conversations about New Year’s resolutions. I remember several years ago, going back to the office right after ringing in the New Year and …

The holiday season means a lot of things. It means family coming together, celebrations with friends, secret Santa parties at work. It means cooking dishes passed down through the generations, experimenting with new recipes seen online, cookie-storms of baking and sugar-coma inducing candy making sessions. It means serious bouts of house cleaning and the decking of our halls and trimming of our trees with all things red, green, gold, silver and glitter. And let’s not forget the careful placement of animated reindeer, elves, Disney and Simpsons characters on our front lawns and the untangling and stringing of miles and miles …

It’s that time of year again. Time to set our clocks back an hour as we say goodbye to the last remnants of summer and its lovely, long evenings. Why must we say goodbye? Because daylight savings time ended at 2:00 am last night, and before we went to bed we all did the biannual trek around the house, resetting every clock to conform to the agreed-upon time of our particular time zone. The old-fashioned, non “smart” clocks that don’t automatically reset themselves, that is. The old adage “spring forward, fall back” sure comes in handy when trying to remember …

Whether you call it autumn or fall, this a truly wonderful time of year. A whole lot of us name it our favorite season over any other. And why not? There’s just so much to love about it. We’re charmed by the gorgeous colors of fall foliage, the rustling and crunching sounds under our feet, and carefree kids (oh, who’re we kidding….us!) jumping into huge piles of leaves. We enjoy watching post-season baseball, and brand-new football and hockey seasons come into full swing. We go apple-picking, corn-mazing, hay-riding and pumpkin carving. We sip hot mulled cider, hot cocoa, and pumpkin …

We all know how important it is to read the labels of the medications we take, right? You do read your medication labels, don’t you? Most of us know it’s important, but many of us don’t actually do it. When you’re taking a prescription drug, you have your doc to advise you, and your pharmacist too. But what about when you choose an over-the-counter medication for a particular symptom you’re experiencing? I’d venture to say most of us have at least five OTC medications in our medicine cabinets. Pain relievers – maybe a few different kinds, allergy and sinus, cold …

We hear a lot about all the different things competing for our time when we “should” be sleeping. Heck, we spend a fair amount of time talking about it here at Sleep Satisfaction. One of the main culprits for most of us is screen time. Everything from social media to surfing the web to watching videos, programs, movies – or whatever – on our various screens. Since screen time seems to be one of sleep’s greatest competitors, perhaps it shouldn’t be much of a surprise, then, to hear that Netflix’s CEO, Reed Hastings, believes that sleep is his company’s greatest …
